Belvès is a lovely medieval town perched on a hilltop with a well preserved bastide centre and a 15th century covered market. Being built on a large rocky outcrop, it has commanding views across the open countryside and is quite distinct from other towns in the region.

Apart from taking a stroll around town you can visit the troglodyte dwellings in the centre.

For us, visiting Belvès is often just an excuse to take a drive and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Small villages set in unspoiled fields, forests and the never ending Dordogne green make it always an attractive proposition. The back road from Domme, via St-Cybranet and La Chapelle Pechaud is one of our favourites. We also particularly like the view as you drive into Belvès from Monpazier.
