2. Château de Hautefort
Château de Hautefort’s architecture is radically different from that of other castles in the region.
The Marquises of Hautefort had spent a lot of time at the court of France and developed the taste that is closer to the Loire Valley than Perigord.
The Château de Hautefort was designed at the end of the 16th century by two architects who were not from the region: one from the Lorraine and the other a Parisian.
Apart from the splendour of the building itself, Chateau de Hautefort contains an impressive collection of 17th century paintings and tapestries.
It is one of the most popular and visited chateaux in the region.
